Every Gaffer account comes with a dedicated phone number that works on both WhatsApp and SMS.
What it does
- Receives and responds to WhatsApp messages from customers
- Receives and responds to SMS messages
- Handles incoming voice calls (voicemail on Starter, AI call handling on Pro)
- Sends outbound messages to customers on your behalf
WhatsApp vs SMS
Gaffer prefers WhatsApp for outbound messages because it's richer (bold text, links, images). If a customer hasn't messaged on WhatsApp in the last 24 hours, Gaffer automatically falls back to SMS to ensure delivery.
Important: your number is not portable
Your Gaffer number is provisioned through our telecom provider and cannot be transferred or ported to another service. If you cancel your subscription, the number will be released. Make sure your customers always have an alternative way to reach you.
